MCCORMICK WOODS 2
Here is another master bathroom that I did in the McCormick Woods developement. The homeowners contacted me wanting to update their master bathroom and remove the big jacuzzi jet tub and deck and replace it with a freestanding tub and faucet, remove the outdated glass bricks and change that in some way along with updating the shower area. After the initial consultation I came up with a few different ideas of what could be done in the space and a plan was finalized. First the tearout, This involved only the tub and shower side of the bathroom and the jacuzzi tub, glass bricks and shower got removed and disposed of, after the shower walls were taken out , I discovered that water had been leaking from the left outside corner of the shower and had caused some rot and a mold issue. Remediation was handled and the project moved forward. With the glass bricks removed, I went ahead and took out the rest of the wall and rebuilt it with an inset niche framed in for the freestanding tub side and a freefloating bench for the shower side. The subfloor got properly dropped and a linear drain with tileable grate got secured to the re-routed shower drain pipe with new p-trap. I installed a new pressure balanced shower rough-in valve with 2 faucets, an overhead and a handheld. Then the tub drain and supply lines were re-routed to accomidate for the freestanding tub and faucet installation. The old floor tile that was in the toilet area was removed which yet again showed rot in the subflooring around the toilet flange. The subfloor and flange were cut out and a new flange got secured to the drain waste pipe and to the new subflooring. With the subfloor and framing taken care of , The walls got prepped for tile and a single slope thin shower pan was installed . River rock was the choice of floor tile for the tub and shower area, and the homeowners wanted to keep the hardwood flooring intact as it ran throughout the house. so I scribed out a line in the hardwood and placeed individual rocks along the line, marked the curvature of each stone and cut out that section of the hardwood on the tub side. Having the entire area waterproofed I installed the river rock in the shower area and flowing into and through the tub area, the majority of the rock in the tub area were all set individually as the mosaic sheets didn't line up very well so I did what had to be done, even if it meant setting a few thousand rocks one by one. After I established the wall tile layout, I cut out a niche that would have the tile line up perfectly and coinciding with grout joints. The back wall of the niche got river rock set in it along with the backwall of the tub area inset niche, the top / face of the pony wall and the face sides of the floating bench. The walls got a 12"x24" porcelain tile set on a 1/3 offset horizontally. The wall tile continued around the pony wall and through the bay windows as a chairrail which ended with the end of river rock at the wall. All the tile edges got a matching Schluter tile edge trim detail. Once the tile was installed and grouted, I took measurements and ordered custom cut frameless 3/8" glass enclosure with a pivot door from the original frameless glass manufacturer out of Florida. The glass came undamaged and cut exactly to my measurements. The glass was installed and some fine tuning had to be done for the door hinges. The freestanding tub and faucet were installed along with the shower finish trim and the toilet, Everything got caulked with a grout color matched sanded caulking including the tub base, toilet base, freestanding faucet base and the shower trim plate.
